Common building drainage problems: Insights for homeowners by one of the leading SWR pipes and fittings manufacturer

Problems related to drainage are expected for most homeowners. Drainage problems and issues can come in many forms, requiring different solutions. As one of the leading SWR pipes and fittings manufacturers, we share with you common drainage problems and their solutions that you as a homeowner will find helpful:

1. Blockages

Clogged drains, slow draining washbasins, and toilet bowls with poor draining functions are a few signs of blocked drainage. They are caused by hair, tissues, coffee grounds, fat, and other oil residues flushed inappropriately. Liquid cleaning solutions can help unclog drains. Applying suction and pressure with a plunger can also help unclog the drain.  However, when these things do not work, it is best to call a plumber.

2. Broken or displaced joints

The ground movement, which can be caused by drainage repairs or ground instability, can cause damage or displacement in SWR (soil, water, and rainwater) pipes. These result in leaks and structural damage. Poor quality SWR pipes are more likely to get damaged easily.

The effective way to prevent leakage is to buy leak-free SWR pipes and fittings. Our SWR (Soil, Waste, and Rain) pipes and fittings come with Leak proof Gold Seal for better fitment. Manufactured with the highest degree of dimensional accuracy, our pipes are strong and rigid. Our ISI-certified pipes are corrosion resistant, chemical resistant, and come with leak-proof joints.

3. Fractures

Fractures are a common drainage problem, particularly in areas with high water tables. They can occur in any type of rock but are most common in sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and limestone. Fractures occur when the rock is subjected to stress, which can be caused by changes in temperature, pressure, or moisture content. The stress causes the rock to break, forming a fracture.

Fractures can be a problem for drainage because they can act as conduits for water. This can lead to increased water levels in the ground and may eventually cause problems with flooding. Fractures can also cause problems for foundations, walls, and other structures built on or into the ground.

4. Root Intrusions

Root intrusions are one of the most common drainage problems. They can occur in any drainage system but are most common in sewer lines. Root intrusions can cause blockages, leaks, and overflows.

Root intrusions are caused by tree roots growing into sewer lines. The roots are attracted to the moisture and nutrients in the sewer lines. Once the roots penetrate the sewer line, they can grow quickly and cause problems. Root intrusions can be prevented by regular maintenance of your sewer lines. Tree roots will not be able to penetrate a well-maintained sewer line.

5. Collapsed sections of pipe

A collapsed SWR (soil, waste, and rainwater) pipe may disallow the wastewater to flow, and it can cause leaking in your surrounding area. It raises some other problems like weakening the ground structure, promoting mould growth, and attracting pests such as mosquitoes, rats, and flies.
